Decor with a Purpose: Functional Shower Supplies

Jump to Patch notes

Continuing my mission to make decorative items useful, I’ve made something more custom than just moving some tuning around. Now when a sim is taking a shower or a bath they have an option to use these body wash and soap objects and get a nice little confidence boost!

These are overrides for EA items, giving them custom tuning and adding those that weren’t already in the Bathroom Accents category to it. It shouldn’t conflict with anything unless you have something else that happens to modify these objects specifically, but please let me know if you have any problems with it.

The new strings are in:
  • Chinese
  • English
  • French
  • Polish
  • Russian
I don't speak any languages nearly well enough to translate this myself so I welcome any translations that anyone can offer and will credit all translators.
  • Adding this sort of functionality to showers and tubs that have built-in clutter. It's not as simple as I'd hoped so that's a future thing.
  • If you know of an item I missed let me know

Addons

  • The "Happy" addon just changes the buff from confident to happy by request. Make sure to put it in the same folder as the main mod and do not rename either or it may not override correctly.
  • Enables my Useful Hand Soap passive on a few objects.
  • This doesn't add any additional interactions and it requires that mod to do anything.

Patch Notes

  • Fixed a bug that was causing occasional errors
  • Made a couple other fixes while looking for the problem. They may not have actually been the problem but whatever, it's more correct now.
  • In fact, I think the kids jumping out of the shower bug might be fixed now! I wasn't seeing it while I was testing it so this might be a two birds one stone thing.
  • Fixed missing search terms
  • Adjusted tags for consistency (yes this probably reverts past changes but you've probably realized by now how fleeting my decisions are)
  • This isn't an update you need to rush to get. It's maintenance and improvements.
  • Added an addon to enable my Useful Hand Soap passive on a few objects. This doesn't add any additional interactions and it requires that mod to do anything.
  • Made all wall mounted objects stay visible while the walls are down since it's hard to access things in small bathrooms.
  • Added HSY acne face cleansing to some objects, allowing it to be done in the shower
  • Updated the main mod to work with the addon.
  • Added objects from Bathroom Clutter Kit
  • Moved Snowy Escape soap into the main mod. It's been removed from my Usable Hand Soap so there's no conflict anymore.
  • Discontinued the Snowy Escape addon as a result of rolling it in to the main mod. You should remove that, but be aware that removing the non-override file will result in the object disappearing from your lots. Just replace it with the new one.
  • Removed custom thumbnails to bring down file size and save myself some work going forward
  • Added Polish translation updates from Aarathiel
  • Removed dye buff removal now that showering properly removes it
  • Improved autonomy so that sims will use these on their own more often
  • Behind-the-scenes fixes the tuning to prevent possible issues.
  • Add Polish strings from JOKERS
  • Added a new addon by request. ShowerSuppliesHappy changes the buff from confident to happy. Make sure to put it in the same folder as the main mod and do not rename either or it may not override correctly.
  • I realized that having Separate, Merged, and Merged by pack was probably confusing so I’ll be slowly updating all my mods to use a new structure.
  • I also realized that the non-override version is overkill. It was requested because someone was worried about a conflict with Mizoreyukii’s No Fade On Everything but looking at that and testing it out it doesn’t seem to actually conflict. If you do have an issue try her fixes here: How to Make No Fade On Everything & Other Mods Compatible
  • So that means that starting with v1.8 the Separate and Non-Override downloads have been discontinued.
  • Now there are two downloads: Merged and ByPack.
    • Merged contains all objects in one file.
    • ByPack contains a TUNING file and one file per pack. You can pick and choose the packs you have/want
    • Each download also contains a file explaining this.
  • Please delete your existing files and redownload one of the new zips because the renamed files won’t overwrite the old ones.
  • Fixed a bug where the override shower caddy no longer had the soap option after my retail fix.
  • Added the retail fix to the non-override version of the shower caddy because I guess I missed that before.
  • I just realized that I was inconsistent with my versioning. I usually start numbering addons separately but I forgot this time and skipped 1.7.1 for the main mod. Sorry.
  • Added French and Russian strings for the SE addo
  • Only the addon is changed
  • Moved the Snowy Escape soap dispenser to an addon. This is to allow for better compatibility with an upcoming mod of mine. Read the Addon notes for details, but keep in mind that the Hand Soap mod is not launched as of the time of this update.
  • Made a fix for a retail issue that I doubt anyone noticed. But I spotted it and fixed it anyway so now there shouldn’t be any issues with that.
  • A note that I forgot to include in my last update: Using shower supplies will remove the negative buff from my perfume mod.
  • Brand new search functionality! I’m slowly adding hidden tags to my objects so you can find them by searching for “Ilex” (that’s an uppercase i at the beginning if you can’t tell). In English you can also search for “Soap” and have these come up.
  • Added Russian translation from SER_KISYAN
  • Added lotion functionality to a few objects that I thought it made sense for. Of course you need my Functional Lotion for that to appear.
  • Changed how the merged folder is organized for ease of updates. If you install by merged pack you’ll now need to include a required tuning file. Please delete your old files to make sure no old code ends up overwriting the new. I’m going to organize the rest of my mods this way going forward and as I make updates. It’s better than having to do a bunch of merges just because I update one line in the tuning.
  • Behind the scenes fix for my strings. You won’t actually see a change in game, but the old way risked conflicting with my own mods as well as others.
  • Updated override version of the Spa Day soap dish to include the new swatches. The non-override one was already correct.
  • Removed all objects from where I had categorized them in Showers. Realized it made more sense to add them all to the Bathroom Accents category so I did that. To be honest I forgot about that category because I never actually sort by room.
  • Added custom thumbnails so that if you have two versions of any objects from different mods you can tell them apart. I’ll be slowly adding these to all my objects for consistency, but since this is the mod with non-override versions I did this first.
  • Washing with soap or body wash now removes the dye explosion buffs from the Eco Lifestyle fabricator.
  • Updated the shower caddy to remain visible if the walls are down. Normally I wouldn’t because it could get in the way, but bathrooms are so small that it can be hard to use wall objects.
  • Removed some leftover code that I missed when I copied the toothbrushing loot.
  • Split bathroom cabinets and shelves off to their own mod. This means that if you have any of the addons you should delete them and redownload whatever you want from here: Bathroom Cabinets
  • Moved a few objects that weren’t a part of the addon to the new mod since I thought they fit better there.
  • Fixed a bug with children using shower supplies and not getting the buff.
  • Fixed instructions in Merged zip.
  • Removed unfinished tuning that wasn’t meant to be included.
  • Added bathroom cabinets addon in both override and non-override versions. Technically the non-addon files are all the same as v1.1 but I wanted to keep the versioning on the uploads consistent.
  • Added three new objects. The Tiny Living one may eventually become multi-purpose but the mod I have in mind is a long way off so this is it for now.
  • Added non-override versions of all objects for anyone having issues with override conflicts. Unfortunately I realized as I was typing up this update that if another override is giving the original version a wrench icon the two will be identical in the catalog. I’ll need to make some custom thumbnails to differentiate them but that will take time so it’s coming in a future update. I totally understand if you want to wait to download them but I’m uploading them as is anyway.
